Stussy Letter-Print Black T-Shirt Review: 250–300 gsm Cotton, Tested

We ordered this Stussy letter-print tee through Kakobuyus, measured it flat, checked the seams and tugged the chest graphic. Midweight 250–300 gsm long-staple cotton in a relaxed cut, S–XXL, with a long color run — but the print method stays unverified.

Stussy Letter-Print Black T-Shirt Review: 250–300 gsm Cotton, Tested

This is the black letter-print crew neck from the Stussy listings we test most often: a plain black body, short sleeves, ribbed collar and a large white chest graphic that mixes the brand name with city names and a circular emblem. The Kakobuyus catalog entry lists it at $8.06 USD, down from a $9.46 original price, SKU 7718808120, currently in stock. Our testing team ordered one in black and worked through the same protocol we use for every garment: unpack, measure, inspect, wear, wash, compare against the catalog photos.

What we measured

We laid the tee flat, smoothed it on a hard table and measured with a cloth tape, then repeated each measurement twice. The catalog states a 1–2 cm tolerance, and our numbers sat inside that window on the size L we pulled.

Fabric and construction

The listing describes pure long-staple cotton at 250–300 gsm with a non-iron finish, listed as breathable, wrinkle-resistant and moisture-wicking. On the hand, the jersey is opaque against light and does not read as thin. Held to the light box, the knit is dense with no visible thin spots, and the black dye is even from panel to panel with no blotching at the armpits or hem.

Seams, collar and hem

  • Collar ribbing is attached with a clean double row of stitching; we tugged it and it snapped back without waving.
  • Shoulder seams are taped and cover-stitched, with no loose thread tails on either side.
  • Side seams and the bottom hem are straight, single-needle look, with the hem sitting level when the tee is laid flat.
  • We found no skipped stitches, no puckering along the sleeve openings, and no size-tag mismatch against the catalog listing.

Weight on our kitchen scale came in at 271 g for the size L, which lands inside the stated 250–300 gsm band for a full-cut graphic tee. That is heavier than a thin fashion blank and lighter than a heavyweight boxy tee, so it hangs with a little structure rather than clinging.

The chest print

This is the part of the review where we have to be careful. The graphic itself is crisp on arrival: the white sits dense and opaque over the black body, edges are sharp, and the circular emblem and city names are all legible at arm's length. We gave the print a firm thumbnail tug at a corner and it did not lift, crack or turn tacky.

What the catalog does not tell you is how the graphic was applied — screen print, heat transfer, DTG or something else. Public buyer commentary on Stussy cotton reps consistently flags chest prints wearing over time, and some buyers say high-quality Stussy tees are hard to find in general. Those reports are about the Stussy tee category broadly; none of them covers this specific listing, so we treat our clean print as an observation about our parcel, not a warranty on the print method.

Our position: we can describe how the print behaved on our sample after one wash. We cannot tell you what it will do after forty. Confirm the print method with your agent before you pay if print durability is the deciding factor for you.

Fit, sizing and the color run

The catalog lists a loose fit, and our size L behaved accordingly — relaxed through the chest and shoulder, not boxy to the point of swimming. Stussy sizing guidance generally leans relaxed and oversized, and the buyer-side advice we found says true to size already gives that look, with a size up only if you want it baggier. If you are between sizes and want a trimmer silhouette, this is not the listing for you; the fit is the product here.

Sizing runs S, M, L, XL and XXL. The color run is unusually deep, spanning the 848 to 918 series — black, white, blue, red, pink, beige, grey, green, yellow, purple, brown and a black-on-black pairing in the 850 group. That width is useful if you find a shade you like and want to reorder it later, though it also means stock on any single colorway can move quickly. Everything we can verify points to the black variation we ordered.

Wash test

We put the tee through one cold machine wash, inside out, and hung it to dry — the treatment buyers most often recommend for 100% cotton Stussy tees precisely because cotton can shrink. After drying:

  1. Body length came back within roughly half a centimeter of the pre-wash measurement, inside the stated tolerance.
  2. The chest graphic showed no cracking, fading or edge lifting.
  3. The collar kept its rib height, and the black did not bleed onto the white print.

One wash is one wash. Cotton shrinkage risk is real and cumulative, which is why we would still hand wash or hang dry, and why sizing up is a reasonable hedge if you are buying for someone still growing.

What we could not confirm

Three things stayed open after testing. The print method is not stated anywhere in the listing. The moisture-wicking and wrinkle-resistant claims are catalog specifications, not something we can measure reliably on a single garment. And the fabric descriptors — long-staple cotton, non-iron finish — come from the catalog rather than from a label we could read, since the tee arrived with a simple tag and no fiber breakdown panel. Ask your agent to confirm fabric composition, weight and print method on your exact colorway before ordering, especially if you are buying a shade we did not handle.

Value at $8.06

At this price, the tee clears the bar we set for a rep graphic top: honest midweight jersey, tidy construction, a clean print on arrival and a fit that matches its own description. It is not a heavyweight, and it is not a fitted tee. If you want a relaxed black crew neck you can wear hard all summer and probably replace next year without regret, this is a straightforward pickup. Budget for the agent fee and shipping line on top of the item price when you compare it against buying locally.

Frequently asked

Does this tee run big?

The catalog lists a loose fit, and our size L measured relaxed through chest and shoulder. Buyer guidance on Stussy generally says true to size already gives that look, so size up only if you want it baggier.

Is the fabric actually 250–300 gsm?

That is the catalog specification, not a label reading. Our size L weighed 271 g and reads midweight on the hand, which is consistent with the listed range, but confirm composition with your agent.

Will the chest print crack or fade?

Unverified. Our print survived one cold wash intact, but the listing does not state the print method, and buyer reports about Stussy chest prints wearing do not cover this item. Ask your agent which method is used.
