Polo Ralph Lauren Black Polo Shirt Review: Oversize Bear Print, Tested

We ordered this R499-equivalent black oversize cotton top for $16.42 through the Kakobuyus agent and tested it for fit, print quality and construction. It reads as a crew-neck printed shirt, not a collared polo.

Polo Ralph Lauren Black Polo Shirt Review: Oversize Bear Print, Tested

This listing sells a loose-cut, short-sleeve cotton top with a printed bear motif, priced at $16.42 USD against a listed original of $18.71. Our testing team ordered one through the Kakobuyus agent, logged warehouse timing, unpacked it in the Portland lab, and worked through the same checklist we use on every garment: flat-lay measurement, seam and stitch inspection, print registration under a light box, hand-feel, and a cold-wash cycle.

What arrived from the agent

The parcel came in standard warehouse packaging with the item folded inside a poly bag and no branded box. The print code attached to the bag matched the option we selected, and the colour read as a true flat black rather than the washed charcoal some budget listings photograph as black. Nothing arrived damaged, and there was no visible storage soiling from the warehouse.

Fit, measurements and the size range

The catalog describes the cut as loose, and the listing's own spec field uses the word oversize. Tagged sizing runs S, M, L, XL and XXL. Body length in the spec sheet is written as 50–65cm, which spans the whole run rather than describing any single size, so it is not a usable measurement on its own. The listing gives no per-size chest, shoulder or sleeve figures.

On the sample we tested, the shoulder line sat wide and the chest carried obvious room, which is consistent with the stated loose cut. The hem landed in a normal range rather than dropping into a long streetwear-style tail, and the short sleeves ended above the elbow crease without binding when the arm was raised. If you want a fitted silhouette, this is not that garment.

Material, seams and print

Hand feel is reasonable for the price: the cotton is on the lighter side of midweight with a slightly dry surface, which matches the "medium softness" the listing states. Seams along the shoulders and armholes were straight and showed no skipped stitches on our sample, and the hem was cleanly turned. The ribbed round neckline held its shape after a cold wash and low tumble; we did not see puckering where the binding meets the body.

The front print is the focus of the design and it was the part we scrutinised most. Registration between the colours on the bear motif was crisp on our sample, with no halo or bleed at the edges, and the print sat flat rather than feeling like a stiff decal. Do you think RL have over used the polo bear? I don't mean on sweaters, but using it on socks, hats, t shirts, ties etc. — r/RalphLauren commenter

The collar question, and why it matters

The product name says polo shirt, but the listing's own spec sheet lists a round neck, regular short sleeves and a print craft. What we received matches that description: a crew-neck printed top, with no collar points and no buttoned placket. There is also a brand field discrepancy — the catalog names Polo Ralph Lauren while the underlying spec data carries "HL." We treat branding claims on this listing as unverified rather than confirmed. If a buttoned placket and structured collar points are non-negotiable for you, this specific listing will not satisfy that.

Cost context for the Kakobuyus route

The $16.42 figure is the item price only. Service fees, domestic shipping inside China, consolidation weight and the international line you choose are added by the agent and confirmed on the Kakobuyus site, not in the listing. That matters at this price point: on a sub-$20 garment, agent and freight costs can rival the item itself, so it is worth batching this with other pieces in one parcel. Because the listed weight is recorded as 0.00, we could not model freight from the catalog alone and used the measured parcel weight from our own order instead.

What we could not verify

There is no independent buyer feedback on this exact listing, and the only public claims available are brand-level statements about Polo Bear shirts generally — some buyers call them very soft and excellent quality, others argue the brand's quality expectations should be tempered. Neither tells you how any single batch ships. Flat-lay chest and length numbers for your size are still the missing piece, and the fastest fix is asking the agent to measure the piece in the warehouse before you ship it out. Sellers offering detailed measurement photos on request are the safer bet here.

Frequently asked

Did the bear print survive a wash?

On our sample, yes. After one cold wash and a low tumble, the print stayed flat with no lifting, cracking or edge bleed, and the ribbed neckline kept its shape. Print longevity beyond a few cycles is still unverified.

Should I ask the agent to measure it before shipping?

Yes. The listing gives no per-size chest or shoulder figures and its 50–65cm length spans the whole run. Request flat-lay chest, shoulder and length for your size in the warehouse, and confirm the collar style at the same time.

Is $16.42 the final cost?

No. That is the item price only. Service fees, China domestic shipping, consolidation weight and your chosen international line are added by the agent and confirmed on the Kakobuyus site, so batch the order with other items to spread freight.
