Polo Ralph Lauren Bear-Print T-Shirt Review: 230 g Cotton in Four Colors
We ordered the Polo Ralph Lauren bear-print tee through Kakobuyus and tested the 230 g cotton, the print, seams and sizing against the listing photos. A soft, relaxed summer shirt with one label-durability question.

The Polo Ralph Lauren bear-print T-shirt is one of those listings where the catalog photos do most of the selling: a plain crew-neck body with a digitally printed bear in a blue outfit and lettering underneath, offered in white, heather grey, red and black. For this review we ordered a size L sample through Kakobuyus, logged the warehouse timeline, measured it flat on the bench, checked the seams under a light box and ran one cold wash cycle before writing anything down.
What arrived and how it is built
The shirt is a pullover crew neck with regular short sleeves and a relaxed body — not a boxy oversize cut, not a slim cut. The listing states 230 g pure cotton, a 1–3 cm measurement tolerance, and summer/casual use. On our kitchen scale the size L sample came in at 236 g, which is consistent with a mid-weight cotton jersey rather than the papery 150–180 g blanks common at this price. Against the listing photos, the color of the heather grey matched closely and the printed bear sat at the same height on the chest.

Measurements from our sample
Flat-laid numbers for the size L we tested, taken with the shirt buttoned-off and smoothed once:
| Measurement | Size L sample |
|---|---|
| Chest, pit to pit | 55 cm |
| Body length, high point to hem | 71 cm |
| Shoulder, seam to seam | 48 cm |
| Sleeve, shoulder seam to cuff | 21 cm |
| Weight on our scale | 236 g |
Those numbers put it firmly in a loose-but-normal fit: two fingers of ease through the chest on a 96 cm chest, and a hem that lands mid-fly. Ralph Lauren sells this shape in Slim-Fit, Custom-Fit and Classic-Fit depending on the model, and the listing itself does not name a cut. Treat the chart above as one data point, not a promise that size L is identical across colorways.
Seams, collar and print under inspection
We checked the shoulder and side seams at 3× magnification in the light box, then pulled gently along the armhole join. Stitching was even and continuous with no skipped stitches and no loose thread tails inside the body. The collar ribbing measures just under 2 cm and holds its shape when the neck opening is stretched and released; it did not ripple when the shirt was laid flat. The hem and cuffs are twin-needle finished and sit level, with no twist along the side seam.
The bear is printed, not embroidered, and the edges of the print show the fine dot structure you expect from digital printing. On our black sample the print coverage was solid, with no haloing against the dark ground and no visible offset from the catalog image. We are less certain about long-term print behavior: the neck label is a heat-applied type rather than a woven tag, which is exactly the construction that appears in buyer complaints about labels peeling after washing.
Wear and wash notes
- First wear: the jersey feels soft against the skin and the 230 g weight drapes without clinging; it stayed comfortable in warm, humid afternoon conditions.
- Cold wash, air dry: after one cycle at 30 °C with no dryer, the print showed no cracking or lifting, and the shirt shrank within the stated 1–3 cm tolerance at the length.
- Open question: repeated washing is where similar Ralph Lauren cotton tops have drawn complaints about fabric stiffening and roughness. One wash is not enough evidence either way, so this stays a flagged risk rather than a conclusion.
What the wider evidence says
Rep-community QC threads on comparable Polo Bear tees describe them as very soft and true to size, with buyers returning for multiple colorways — encouraging, but those threads are about similar shirts, not this exact listing. On the official Ralph Lauren side, reviews include complaints about tagless labels peeling after the first wash, and about pure cotton tops getting stiffer and slightly shrinking over time even when washed cold without a dryer. Some official buyers also found an XL far too small, which is why we recommend asking the agent for a flat chest measurement instead of picking a size from the label alone.
The 1–3 cm tolerance the listing states matters here. If you are between sizes and want a fitted look, that band is wide enough to change the outcome, so ask the agent to measure the shirt it actually pulls from the warehouse before it goes into international shipping.
How we would order it
- Send the agent the listing link and a screenshot of the colorway you want — four colors share one listing, and variant names can be thin.
- Ask for a flat-laid chest and length measurement in the size you selected, plus confirmation of whether the shirt follows a slim or classic cut.
- Request a QC photo of the neck label and the print at close range before approving international shipment.
At $17.16 the shirt is priced like a disposable summer tee but behaves like a mid-weight one. The fabric, print and stitching held up well in our hands-on checks; the label construction and wash durability are the two things we would keep watching through the retest window.

Frequently asked
Does this Polo Ralph Lauren bear-print tee run true to size?
Our size L sample measured 55 cm pit to pit and 71 cm long, a relaxed fit close to the chart. Comparable rep Polo Bear tees are called true to size, but some official Ralph Lauren buyers found an XL too small, so confirm measurements with the agent.
Is the cotton soft and does the print hold up?
The 230 g jersey felt soft in wear and the digital print showed no cracking after one cold wash and air dry. Comparable Polo Bear tees are described as very soft in QC threads; we did not test enough wash cycles to judge long-term print life.
What should I check before ordering?
Confirm which Ralph Lauren cut the listing follows, request flat chest and length measurements in your size, and ask for a close-up QC photo of the neck label, since similar cotton tops have drawn complaints about labels peeling after washing.
