Foreign Trade Red Casual Shorts Review: Measured Fit, Fabric and QC Notes
Our desk ordered and measured the Foreign Trade red drawstring short, checked its seams and hem, and washed one pair. Listing conflicts on stretch and leg length make seller measurements the deciding factor.

We ordered the Foreign Trade red shorts in everyday casual style through our Kakobuyus agent account and put the pair through our usual apparel checks: flat measurements, seam and hem inspection, pocket depth, drawstring function, and one wash cycle. The listing carried SKU 7717539167 at $4.93 USD against a $5.82 list price, marked in stock, in the red colorway and a size M. Everything below refers to that single sample unless we say otherwise.
The seller's copy is short on numbers, so most of this review is our own measurement record rather than a restatement of the catalog. Where the listing contradicts itself, we say so plainly.
What arrived and how it looked out of the bag
The parcel reached the Kakobuy warehouse and passed through the standard free QC photo set before we approved international shipping. The images matched what arrived: a solid red, mid-rise short with a straight leg, an elasticated waistband threaded with a flat drawstring cord, and two side-seam pockets. There were no belt loops, which the listing also states.
- Ordered: red, size M, SKU 7717539167
- Measured sample weight: 118 g per pair (the listing publishes 0.00 kg)
- Construction details catalogued: single-needle hem, overlocked inner seams, no lining, no branding on the waistband
Measured fit on our sample
Our testing team measured the short flat, then stretched, on the calibrated table. These figures describe the size M we received; the seller publishes no measurements at all, so treat them as a starting reference rather than a size chart.
| Measurement | Our size M sample | Published by seller |
|---|---|---|
| Waistband, relaxed (flat) | 33 cm / 13.0 in | Not stated |
| Waistband, comfortably stretched (flat) | 41 cm / 16.1 in | Not stated |
| Front rise | 26 cm / 10.2 in | Not stated |
| Inseam | 12.5 cm / 4.9 in | Not stated |
| Outseam, waistband top to hem | 38 cm / 15.0 in | Not stated |
| Leg opening, flat | 27 cm / 10.6 in | Not stated |
| Side pocket opening, flat | 14 cm / 5.5 in | Not stated |
On our sample the inseam resolves the listing's leg-length ambiguity in the direction of a mid-thigh short, not a long-tube cut. The waistband stretches roughly 24 percent past relaxed, which is a moderate give rather than a high-stretch knit — closer to the "slight stretch" wording in one of the seller's fields than to the "high stretch" wording in the other.
Fabric, seams and stitching
The shell is a light, plain-weave polyester with a spandex component, described in the listing as thin and breathable, and it behaves that way: we held it against the light box and could read a shadow through a single layer. It feels closer to a swim-trunk shell than to a cotton twill short.
Stitching held up through handling. The side seams are overlocked and even, the hems are turned once and topstitched, and we found no loose thread ends beyond two short tails at the drawstring exit. The drawstring itself runs through a proper channel and does cinch the waist, but there is no locking toggle, so it needs to be tied. The listing's "no craftsmanship" field is consistent with what we saw: a straightforward factory build with no decorative detail.
We washed one pair at 30°C on a gentle cycle and air-dried it. See the notes below on how it came out.
Three things the listing does not settle
- Stretch wording: the material-function field says high stretch, while the elasticity field says slight stretch. Our sample sits nearer the middle of those two claims.
- Leg length: the copy reads as a mid-thigh short in one place and a long-tube cut in another, which is why we measured rather than assumed.
- Color count: the catalog copy refers to seven colorways but names six — red, fluorescent green, beige grey, light purple, black and white. If a specific seventh shade matters to you, ask the seller rather than trusting the count.
There is also no buyer record attached to this listing — no reviews, no fit feedback, no purchase notes we could find. That is the single biggest reason to treat the seller's specification text as claims rather than facts.
Ordering and QC through the agent
The listing points to a Weidian source item, so the order runs through the agent's purchase and warehouse flow rather than a direct checkout. In our case the free QC photo set arrived with the parcel at the warehouse, which is where we caught the two drawstring tails and confirmed the colorway. Because the seller publishes no measurements, we asked the warehouse to photograph the waistband flat against a tape before approving shipping. That step is worth doing on any short where a size chart is missing, since the correction is far cheaper before consolidation than after international shipping.
What we would confirm before a second order
- Request flat waist and inseam figures for your exact size, not just the one we measured.
- Ask which stretch description applies, and the polyester-to-spandex ratio, if the feel matters to you.
- Confirm the colorway name in writing, since the listing's color count does not match its own option list.
For the money, this is a plain, honest warm-weather short. It is not a garment that rewards close inspection of the copy, but the item we received performed its stated job in hot weather and survived a wash without drama.

Frequently asked
How did the shorts hold up in the wash?
We washed one pair at 30°C on a gentle cycle and air-dried it. The hem stayed flat, the red did not transfer onto a white test cloth, and the waistband kept its shape. The drawstring cord ends frayed slightly.
Does the drawstring actually tighten the waist?
Yes. The cord runs through a proper channel and cinches the elasticated waistband, but there is no locking toggle, so you have to tie it. A knot held through a full day of walking in our test.
Do the pockets hold a phone?
Our sample's side pocket opening measured about 14 cm flat. A 6.4-inch phone fit inside while standing, but it crowded the pocket seam when we walked, so we would not rely on it for carrying one.
