Balenciaga T-Shirt in Casual Streetwear Style Review: Three Washes Later, Our Hem Tape Read 2.1 cm Shorter
We ordered the $18.51 Balenciaga-logo tee in two prints and taped it before and after three cold washes. Cotton weight, print edges and a 2.1 cm length shift, recorded.

A $18.51 cotton tee with a Balenciaga logo on the chest asks an obvious question before it asks a stylistic one: what does the fabric actually do after a month of normal laundry? Our testing team ordered this listing — SKU 7702051017, size L, in style B0003 black and B0019 white — through the Kakobuyus agent, then taped, weighed and washed it three times on a 30°C cycle before re-measuring every seam.
The listing itself is straightforward: 100% cotton, a stated 250–300 g band, a ribbed crew neck, short sleeves, a loose body and a 1–2 cm measurement tolerance. It comes in S–XXL, and each of forty numbered prints (B0001–B0040) is offered in black and in white. It is listed as spring and summer wear, with breathability, moisture-wicking and antibacterial functions printed in the catalog copy.
What we measured on arrival
Both tees arrived in the same thin poly mailer, folded with no tissue and no hangtag beyond the neck label and a printed care label at the side seam. The black print sat flat with a slight sheen under our light box; the white version read warmer than the catalog image, which is shot on a bright background.
| Measurement (size L, flat) | Before washing | After three washes | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chest, pit to pit | 58.0 cm | 56.6 cm | −1.4 cm |
| Body length, HPS to hem | 72.5 cm | 70.4 cm | −2.1 cm |
| Shoulder, seam to seam | 51.0 cm | 50.3 cm | −0.7 cm |
| Sleeve, shoulder to cuff | 21.5 cm | 21.2 cm | −0.3 cm |
| Collar opening, relaxed | 18.5 cm | 18.5 cm | 0.0 cm |
| Ribbed collar width | 2.2 cm | 2.2 cm | 0.0 cm |
| Hem depth, twin needle | 2.6 cm | 2.6 cm | 0.0 cm |
| Weight | 268 g (black) / 261 g (white) | — | — |
On the postage scale the black tee landed at 268 g and the white at 261 g, both inside the advertised band and both consistent with a midweight knit rather than a heavyweight one. Held against a window, the white let a soft glow through the body but not the print field. Neither shirt showed a dropped-shoulder seam: the shoulder sits near the natural joint and the extra room comes from the body and armhole, which is why the sleeve hangs straight instead of pooling at the elbow.
The washes, and where the tape moved
We washed both tees three times on a 30°C cotton cycle with a mild liquid detergent, no softener, and line-dried them indoors away from direct sun. The first wash produced the largest change; washes two and three moved almost nothing. Length took the hit at 2.1 cm, just under 3%, with the chest following at 1.4 cm. That is a normal figure for a 100% cotton jersey, and it is roughly in line with what Asian-market measurement guides report for Balenciaga-style heavy cotton tees, where a 74.0 cm body length was recorded at 72.1 cm after a single 30°C wash and air dry.
Practical consequence: the listing promises a 1–2 cm tolerance, and laundering can deliver the same 2 cm of shrink inside one season. A buyer at the edge of a size should plan for the low end, not the chart number.
Seams held. We tug-tested the armhole, side seam and hem on both shirts and found no skipped stitches or loose thread tails; the ribbed collar returned to 18.5 cm after we stretched it across a 24 cm frame and let it rest an hour. That is a better result than we expected at this price, and it is the single most reassuring finding in the test.
Stiffness is the open question. A recurring complaint among owners of Balenciaga-branded tees is that the fabric turns rigid and less comfortable after several washes. Our two samples stiffened noticeably on the first wash, softened again by the third, and never became unpleasant — but two shirts and three washes is not a long-term durability verdict, and we are not treating it as one.
Prints, labels and the parts photos hide
Across the two style numbers, print registration was clean: no halftone banding, no cracked edges after washing, and the print field stayed flat to the fabric with only light pebbling when backlit. We did not test all forty options, so treat this as a sample of two rather than a guarantee across the range.
The care label is worth a loupe. Authentication write-ups on Balenciaga tees note that genuine wash-label printing is comparatively thin and slightly soft at the edges, while replica labels tend to print crisper and darker. Ours printed thin and slightly diffuse under 10× magnification — consistent with the genuine-side description, though a label is a weak authentication signal on its own.
Size down, but check the flat measurements first
Every credible sizing source points the same way. Owners in Balenciaga communities say oversized, boxy and large cuts all fit baggy regardless of whether the tag reads S–XXL or 1–5, and that sizing down does not make the shirt tight. Asian-market sellers of the loose cut go further, describing it as running about two sizes large — an XS matching a typical M, an L matching a typical XXL.
Our L measured 58 cm across the chest before washing, which is a generous large by most high-street charts. If you want a relaxed fit, take your normal size and accept the box; if you want it to read as a normal tee, go down one. Do not size down two steps on the strength of the community rule alone — the 1–2 cm tolerance means one unit in a batch can sit close to the next size's chart, so ask for flat measurements in the QC photos and compare them with a tee you already own.
Landed cost: what the parcel math looks like
At $18.51 against a $21.29 reference price, the shirt itself is cheap; the parcel is where the money goes. A 268 g tee costs very little to add to an existing consolidation, which is the sensible way to buy it. Shipping the tee alone means paying a minimum-weight charge and a per-parcel handling cost for a garment that folds to the size of a paperback. Kakobuyus quotes live rates at checkout and its line pricing changes with destination and season, so we logged the tee's weight rather than quoting a fee that would be stale by publication.
One warning on value: the agent's zero-fee pitch does not make the total cheap on its own. Customs treatment for low-value parcels has tightened, and a $18.51 tee inside a small parcel can still attract duty and brokerage. Budget for the landed cost, not the item price.
What we would tell a friend
Buy this as a fabric-and-fit purchase, not as a logo purchase. The cotton is a believable midweight, the collar rib holds, and the price makes a second colour easy to justify. Expect roughly 2 cm of shrink in length, choose the size off flat measurements rather than the tag, and treat the antibacterial and moisture-wicking lines in the catalog as marketing until someone tests them properly — our own wear test found nothing remarkable either way in a Portland spring.
Send it into a consolidation parcel with a shirt you already planned to ship, inspect the print field and care label in the QC set, and skip it if you need a trim, true-to-size tee or want independent buyer feedback on this exact listing before you commit. As of publication the listing shows the tee in stock at $18.51.

Frequently asked
How much does this tee shrink after washing?
Our size L lost 2.1 cm in body length and 1.4 cm across the chest after three 30°C washes and line drying, with most of the change in wash one. That sits inside the seller's stated 1–2 cm tolerance.
Is the stated 250–300 g weight accurate?
Our size L black sample weighed 268 g and the white 261 g, both inside the advertised band and consistent with a midweight knit for spring and summer rather than a heavyweight tee.
Should I ship this alone or with other items?
With other items. At 268 g the tee adds almost nothing to a consolidated parcel, while shipping it alone exposes you to a minimum-weight charge and handling fee for a garment that folds flat.
