Amiri Multicolor Jacket Collection Review: Bone Varsity in Black and Apricot White
We ordered the Amiri bone varsity through Kakobuyus in apricot white, measured it flat, and checked the towel embroidery, zip and seams. Fit drift across S–XL batches is the open question.

What We Ordered and How We Tested
We placed an order for the Amiri multicolor jacket collection through the Kakobuyus shopping agent and took delivery of one apricot-white sample in size L, with a black size M ordered alongside for a second colorway comparison. Before shipping we reviewed the warehouse QC photos against the catalog image, then, once the parcel landed in Portland, our testing team logged packaging condition, weighed the jacket, and worked through a flat-lay measurement set with a tape measure and a seam ripper for interior inspection.
The listing at the time of ordering was priced at $77.01 USD against a stated original of $88.45, with the item marked in stock and offered in black and apricot white across S, M, L and XL. The seller description specifies a fleece-like exterior, a wool blend containing 50% wool (lambswool), bone towel embroidery along the sleeves, a stand collar, front zip closure, side pockets, and a contrasting script logo at the chest. We checked each of those claims on the physical garment rather than accepting the listing copy.
Fabric, Weight and Construction
The shell reads as a bonded lambswool fleece: a dense, brushed face over a knit backing, with a light pile that catches lint easily. Our size L sample weighed 1.06 kg on the calibrated scale — heavy enough to feel like outerwear rather than a sweatshirt, light enough to layer over a hoodie. Interior seams are overlocked and the shoulder and armhole joins are double-stitched; we found no loose thread tails when we turned the sleeves inside out, and the seam allowance at the armhole stayed flat through a light steam.
The front zip is a metal-toothed unit with a branded pull. It tracked cleanly on both samples, engaged at the bottom stop without a fight, and the storm flap behind it sits flat rather than curling. Pocket bags are a thin lining fabric anchored at the side seams — adequate, not reinforced at the corners, which is the first place we would expect wear on a jacket worn daily.
Fit and Flat Measurements
Retail Amiri varsity cuts are famously slim. Our sample is not. The body hangs straighter through the waist with a slightly dropped shoulder, and buyers in the rep communities describe the same thing — one reviewer noted his was "slightly oversized" and that the jacket "does not really fit like the retail," where retail Amiri "is quite slim." We measured the same direction of drift on our L.
| Measurement (size L, flat) | Our sample |
|---|---|
| Chest, pit to pit | 58 cm |
| Shoulder, seam to seam | 48 cm |
| Sleeve, shoulder seam to cuff | 62 cm |
| Body length, collar base to hem | 66 cm |
| Hem, relaxed | 52 cm |
Those numbers sit closer to a roomy L than a slim one, and the sleeve length is generous. Buyers who want the close retail silhouette should size down and confirm the numbers first; buyers who intend to layer should not. Two buyers in the threads we reviewed describe a no-crop batch in which the sleeves end at the waistband and the cut behaves like a different varsity altogether, so the batch you receive matters as much as the size you pick.
Bone Embroidery and Finish Details
The bone motifs are towel embroidery, not a flat stitch-out: the pile is raised, dense and slightly three-dimensional, and it sits proud of the fleece without puckering the shell underneath. On our apricot-white sample the thread tone reads as a soft ivory against the off-white ground — a low-contrast effect that is deliberate in the design but does make the motif less legible in photographs than on the black version, where the same embroidery punches through with obvious contrast. The chest script logo is a clean, tight stitch-out with sharp letterforms and no bridging between characters.
We photographed two defects worth noting: a faint pill patch under the right arm where the sleeve rubs the body, and a 4 mm section at the left cuff where the ribbing join sits slightly proud. Neither affects wear. Labeling is minimal, and the interior neck tag does not carry the retail care composition, so treat the 50% wool figure as the seller's claim rather than a certified content label.
Working Through the Batch Problem
Buyer reports on this model describe batch-to-batch differences in both material and cut, including later batches using fabric closer to retail and a no-crop version with sleeves ending at the waistband.
That is the single most useful thing we can tell a shopper here. The jacket we tested is a solid lambswool-blend varsity at a low price, but it is not a uniform product across sellers and restocks. Before you commit, ask the agent for a flat-lay chest and sleeve measurement of the actual unit in the warehouse, and for a photo of the sleeve cuff against the hem so you can confirm the crop. Those two requests resolve nearly every complaint in the buyer threads.
Care and Wear Notes
The brushed fleece face is the wear point. It picks up lint and shows pilling quickly under friction, so a fabric comb and cold, air-dry laundering will extend it considerably. Avoid a hot tumble dryer — the bonded backing separates at the hem first, and there is no retail care label inside to warn you.

Frequently asked
What did our size L sample measure flat?
58 cm pit to pit, 48 cm shoulder seam to seam, 62 cm sleeve, 66 cm body length and a 52 cm relaxed hem. Those numbers read closer to a roomy L than a slim one.
How does the apricot white differ from the black?
Same shell and embroidery, but the ivory towel pile sits low-contrast on apricot white, so the bone motif reads less clearly than on black. Both carry the chest script logo.
What should I ask the agent before shipping?
Request a flat-lay chest and sleeve measurement of your actual unit, plus a photo of the cuff against the hem to confirm sleeve length. Batch cut varies enough to change sizing.
